Lithotripsy unit

In the nefrology area, Poliplaza carries the most advanced procedures for the fragmentation and elimination of kidney stones located along the urinal channels. Using a Litotriptor, high-energy shock waves are sent though the skin where the stone is located.

The shock waves are generated by an electrode found inside a water chamber. The waves are then concentrated by an elliptical reflector that directs them towards the kidney stones without damaging the kidney. This way, the kidney stones begin fractioning after a certain amount of shock waves and are eliminated through the urine channel.

This procedures requires no hospitalization. The average duration of the process is 30 minutes, and it requires usually local anesthesia to prevent movement. The patient is free to leave the same day and requires only rest to recover. The colateral damage is minimum and the cost of the procedure is considerably less than the one of surgical intervention.
